Steam Expo '86 Souvenir Brass Pin
Official Event of Expo '86 (World's Fair) held in Vancouver, B.C. in 1986
In celebration of Steam Expo '86, the organizers commissioned a number of official items for sale during this very special rail fan event. Steam Expo ran for ten days in late May and early June, 1986 in the CN yards just east of the Expo '86 site. The event included the largest gathering of live steam and replica locomotives since the Rail Fair in Chicago in 1948. A total of 18 steam locomotives participated in the Grand Parade of Steam on the opening day of Steam Expo '86. The parade was held on the CPR tracks on the Vancouver waterfront and was led by the Royal Hudson #2860 and she arrived at the CPR station 99 years after the arrival of the first transcontinental passenger train in Vancouver. Right after the Grand Parade, the site opened and ran for ten days. This brass pin was one of the most popular items sold during Steam Expo. Pin measures 5/8th of an inch square and is finished in polished brass plate (very hard to photograph) with single clasp. There are very few of these available for sale.
