CPR 1877 'Progress Report'
'Report on Surveys and Preliminary Operations on the CPR up to January 1877'
Written by Sir Sanford Fleming
First Edition book published in 1877.
This Report of Progress on the building of the CPR (up to the end of 1876) was published 138 years ago and submitted by Sir Sanford Fleming, Engineer in Chief for the CPR. This hard cover book is 411 pages with charts and maps. With a 20 page index at the back of the book. Outer hard cover and binding in very good shape considering its age (see photos). However, the cover page and first ten pages of the Table of Contents have separated from the binding but are intact.
The system wide map showing the mainline from Ontario to BC (six panels wide) has also separated from the book (see photo #5). All other multi panel maps and charts (including town sites) are still bound in the book including an 11 panel elevation map from Lake Superior to the Pacific Ocean! Outer edges of pages show some age and a few pages have minor water stains in the upper corners. See photos for examples of description of condition.
A book of this importance, still in very good shape, is extremely rare to find.
